My Hair Care Routine - Back to Basics!

Hi you lovely people!

So I’m sure many of you don’t actually know yet what my passion is.. I am completely head over heels for all things HAIR!

I have my own little hair extensions business called Olive & Wild, and I am planning on posting about it soon in order to show off my work. But in the meantime, I thought I would make a blog post about my basic hair routine – my favourite products and how I look after my natural hair & hair extensions on an everyday basis.

This post doesn’t include styling, but if you do want to see a future post about how I make my hair & hair extensions super smooth, or how I create different types of curls, or my favourite hair styles then please comment down below, or like the post or message me over on Instagram! Any feedback is sooooo appreciated.

Right lets get started!

I normally try and leave my hair for 3+ days before washing it. I’m sure you’ve heard people tell you “if you wash your hair too often it’ll get greasier” and unfortunately, they are right!

When you wash your hair daily, your hair will become greasier as you are stripping your hair of all its essential oils! The oils are produced to help your hair grow, and to help protect your new hair at the roots.

It is also important if you have hair extensions to not wash them everyday. This is because, as they are not attached to your scalp they don’t receive the oils your natural hair does, meaning they dry out a lot quicker & may become all knotty and straggly which we do not want!

I wash my hair in the shower & grab my two favourite hair products

OGX Shea Soft & Smooth Shampoo and OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Conditioner.

These products are some of the best quality products that you can find in your local supermarket. They are really good for your hair / hair extensions as they don’t contain any silicone or sulphate (which is what you want to be looking for!)

These products are reasonably priced and smell amazing!

I wash my hair with the shampoo first, making sure I scrub my roots (but am gentle on my extensions bonds) and I don’t put shampoo directly on the ends of my hair – I let the suds run down the ends and wash away.

Once washed out, I add a generous amount of the conditioner onto the mids & ends of my hair. I leave the conditioner to work its magic for around 5 mins whilst I was my body & my face.

If I am wanting to give my hair a treat or if I feel it needs a bit more conditioning (may have used lots of heat on it in the past few days) I used a hair mask. I picked up the Herbal Essences Argan Oil of Morocco Hair Mask the other day and have been trying it out! Herbal Essences is also a great brand to use as they do not add any silicone or sulphate into their products either.

Before I dry my hair I towel dry it gently and get as much water out of it as I can. This just saves it dripping everywhere and will allow the next products I use to soak in better.

I use 2 more of my favourite hair care products next. I use Argan Secret Miracle “10” Leave In Spray Treatment & John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum. These two products are amazing and I use them to heat protect and smooth my hair before I dry it. I can really tell the difference when I use them to when I don’t, as they just make my hair so much more manageable! I just smooth one product at a time into the lengths of my hair – I don’t put them into my roots as they would go all greasy!

When drying my hair I often just really roughly dry the lengths of my hair first, and make my way up to my roots. I use the Dyson Hair Dryer and it is just sooooo good! Drys my hair in double time compared to my old, normal hair dryer.

Once my hair is half dry, I brush through the bottoms of my hair in order to gently take out any knots and then continue to dry my hair with my paddle brush. After my whole hair is dry, I give it a good brush through and I’m good to go!

This “Back to Basics” washing & drying routine is pretty quick & easy! The products are truly some of the best I have use to keep my hair healthy, smooth and smelling amazing. My hair is straight with a slight kink & pretty frizzy, but by using these products together and brushing my hair as I dry it I have found that I don’t even need to straighten it afterwards!

Like I said earlier, Hair is my absolute passion and I would LOVE to make more posts about how I care for my hair, and styling techniques as well as my Hair Extension Business so please let me know if you would like to see more!

Lots of love,

Moll x
